Design that aligns with Gaggenau
There’s a clear mission afoot at 611 West 56th, and it’s summed up by Amit Khurana, co-founder of Sumaida + Khurana: “Our clients love design, architecture and art. They look for refined and understated spaces and details that are not conspicuous, loud, overdone or showy.”
“They are cosmopolitan and sophisticated,” he adds. “We MUST deliver buildings that offer only the absolute best to meet their expectations.
“Products like Gaggenau appliances fit squarely into that level of expectation.”
Khurana’s firm, based in NYC, describes their core objective as “developing seminal buildings through uncompromising dedication to architecture and craft. With this purity of vision in mind, Sumaida + Khurana, in partnership with LENY, seeks to develop an elegant and timeless body of work by profoundly improving on the built environment.”
Khurana notes that “611 West 56th is the first building in the U.S. designed by Pritzker-Prize winning master architect Alvaro Siza,” who’s known for his pure, sculptural buildings. Its exterior is clad in Perla Bianca limestone for a refined look that draws elegance from its understated details. The interiors of the 80 residences in this monolithic tower were designed by Gabellini Sheppard.
“It’s a signature element in this type of building – best in class, high design, high performance.”
“This project demanded top quality craftsmanship for exclusive, rarified living,” says Khurana, and Gabbelini Sheppard’s interiors bring an “amazing blending of space, light, materials and finishes to create a heightened sense of place.”
When it came to appliances, Khurana says, “Gaggenau was the only choice for the 77 kitchens in this tower. “It’s a signature element in this type of building – best in class, high design, high performance.”
The choice of Gaggenau opens the door for events after the sale of an individual residence, says Khurana, noting that they’ve invited Michelin Star chefs to cook for the new homeowners. “We love engaging with Gaggenau for those kinds of events,” he adds.
But ultimately, it’s about the quality of the appliance, says Khurana. “We align with Gaggenau on many points: excellent craftsmanship, superior quality, and beautiful design.”
