The gorgeous cover of Mexican: A Journey through Design, by Newell Turner.

In May, Gaggenau and K&N Appliance Gallery hosted an evening of Mexican exploration guided by a conversation between Luxe Interiors + Design Magazine’s Texas Homes Editor Lara Hollack and Newell Turner author and design anthropologist, and former editorial director of publications including House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Met Home and Veranda. Together, they traversed the vibrant tapestry, styles, and multi-layered design heritage which defines Mexico’s culture as featured in his new book Mexican: A Journey through Design.

The new book, built on a personal design journey and years of study by the author, offers a glimpse into his passion for interior design and architecture as well as Mexico. Throughout the exchange with Hollack, Turner shared personal stories and covered key decorative periods that have influenced and evolved throughout the centuries in Mexico including Pre-Columbian, Baroque, Art Deco, Surrealism and into Contemporary design which are masterfully portrayed within the pages.

Following the conversation, guests including Austin’s design community enjoyed Mexican cuisine prepared on Gaggenau appliances by Chef Juan Rodriguez and paired to a 3-course tasting journey of Clase Azul tequila. The evening came to an end with guests receiving a signed copy of the book.
